The pace at which the world is moving ahead, all of us are running short of time. While some are late for the next meeting, others are in a hurry to catch the next train. Our busy lives have led to an enormous change in eating habits where healthy eating is considered dull and fast food has become the new normal. Maybe fast food is tastier, but read on to find out the way fast food impacts your body.

10 Effects ofFast Food on Your Body

1. You will increase your risk of obesity:

High-calorie intake of fast food can lead to obesity, or in the worst case put you at risk of developing chronic diseases. Frequent fast-food consumption will ultimately lead to weight gain.

2. Your teeth will decay:

Frequent intake of soda via fast food can affect your oral health. Drinking soda increases the amount of acid in your mouth, which might lead to tooth decay and cavities.

3. Your blood sugar will spike:

Overeating of white-flour based food such as buns from a burger or even fries can increase your blood sugar level and lead to clinical conditions such as diabetes.

4. Your risk of heart disease will increase:

Fats found in fast food (such as cheeseburger or fries) can increase “bad cholesterol” in your body and increase the risk of cardiovascular diseases.

5. Your bones could weaken:

Fast food is loaded with sodium and consumption of sodium above the recommended limit can lead to the weakening of your bones.

6. Your skin will deteriorate:

You may develop skin conditions such as acne due to the simple sugar, white flour or empty carbs found in fast food.

7. You will be left lethargic:

Fast food like burgers, fries and milkshakes come with a heavy dose of calories which will end up making you feel full and lethargic.

8. Your memory will decline:

Research claims that saturated fats which affect your heart can also have a negative impact on your brain’s functions and memory.

9. You may increase your risk of cancer:

Various chemicals found in fast food grilled chicken were tested, and post research, it was found that substance formed after the meat is heated at a certain temperature is associated with prostate and colon cancer.

10. You will be constipated:

Dietary fibre commonly found in fruits, vegetables, whole grains and seeds is often missing from fast foods, which might lead to constipation.

Healthy Eating Habits

Developing healthy eating habits is one of the best ways to avoid the complications mentioned above, which are caused to our body due to fast food.

1. Ensure to fill half your plate with fruits and vegetables in every major meal.

2. Switch to whole grain food which will keep you full longer and reduce the need for snacking.

3. Eat slow and mindfully, and take extra time to pay attention to what you eat.

4. Choose water over sugar-sweetened drinks.

5. Do not indulge in eating fast food more than once a week.

Health Insurance

While eating healthy and avoiding fast food can help to some extent, it would be wise to invest in health insurance such as Kotak Health Shield which offers you coverage against four critical illnesses such as cardiac, cancer, liver and neurological disorders.

Waiver of premium, income benefits and tax benefits are some of the additional benefits which you can leverage with the Kotak Health Shield plan. While health complications in the world are on the rise, it would be best if you consider health insurance to secure your well-being.

Conclusion

The more fast food you eat, the more you will desire. We challenge you to break this vicious cycle, follow healthy eating habits and lead a wholesome life.
