When we consume healthy food, we also feel healthy from the outside. But have you ever wondered why this happens? Our eating habits define our health much more than we are aware of, and it is precisely what we would be discussing today.

Let us now take a look at some eating habits, their effects on our health and why it would be best to avoid them.

Effects of Eating Habits on your Health

1. Eating Your Food Mindlessly:

A food psychologist from Cornell University discovered that the larger the plate or bowl you eat your food from, the more you unknowingly consume. Also, with most of us glued to our screens during meals, we do not pay attention to the food we consume. Mindless eating often causes you to overeat, which can lead to obesity and weight gain.

2. Munching on Snacks Late in the Night:

Almost every other diet guru would suggest that late-night munching is never a good idea. Many studies have confirmed that for a healthy diet, what food you eat is as important as when you eat it. Eating food late in the night can increase your blood sugar and also cause heart diseases and acidity.

3. Skipping Your Breakfast in The Morning:

You know breakfast is important, but maybe you had other more important tasks at hand because of which you chose to skip breakfast. Skipping your breakfast will slow down your metabolism, and without fuel in the body, there are chances that you might overeat later.

4. Consuming Too Much of Junk Food:

Consuming too much junk food is not just bad for your waistline, but it can also lead to several other health complications. Fast foods are loaded with high-fat and high-sugar components which are best avoided or consumed only in moderation if you want to lead a healthy lifestyle.

5. Wolfing Down Your Food Too Quickly:

When you consume your meal too fast, it does not allow your brain to catch up with your stomach. When you gulp down your meal in ten minutes or less, you could end up eating more than required. Eating quickly is often associated with overweight and bloating.

Healthy Eating Habits to Improve Your Overall Health

1. Eat from smaller dishes. Try replacing your large dinner plate with a plate of salad and never eat straight from a food container.

2. Brush your teeth after finishing your last meal. You are less likely to crave for a late-night meal with a clean mouth.

3. To make sure you do not skip breakfast, you can keep healthy, readymade breakfast items with you such as fruits, yoghurts, cereal bars, etc.

4. Take smaller bites and put your fork down between bites to inculcate more mindful eating practises in yourself.

5. Eat a variety of fruits, vegetables, cereals and whole grains to ensure your daily intake of protein and dietary fibre.

Health Insurance

While following good eating habits will definitely help you to keep health problems at bay to some extent, it would be best if you cover yourself with health insurance. A comprehensive health cover like the Kotak Health Shield will help you stay protected against unwanted conditions which might develop because of your unhealthy eating habits.

Additionally, Kotak Health Shield covers early and major stage illnesses related to Cancer, Cardiac, Liver and Neuro. It also includes numerous other benefits such as extending coverage to the spouse, tax benefits and income benefits, which can be an added advantage apart from securing your health.

Conclusion

The best prevention of any disease is to catch them inside your body before they show up as an outward symptom. Make sure you cover yourself with robust health insurance and always eat healthy food to lead a healthy life.
