A TAN (Tax Deduction and Collection Account Number) certificate is an important document for entities in India responsible for deducting or collecting taxes at the source. It serves as proof of registration with the Income Tax Department and is essential for compliance with tax regulations.

What is TAN?

A TAN certificate is issued by the Income Tax Department and contains your unique 10-digit alphanumeric TAN, which is required for all entities that deduct or collect tax at source. The TAN certificate is vital for filing tax deduction at source (TDS) returns, issuing TDS certificates, and conducting other TDS-related activities.

How to Apply for the Issuance of New TAN?

Form 49B is the application used by a deductor who either does not have a TAN or has never applied for one. The applicant should complete Form 49B online, either through the Tax Information Network (TIN) website or by submitting it at a TIN facilitation center with a biometric-based system.
