A Sudden Tragedy

Life has a way of testing our resilience when we least expect it. Just as I was settling into my new job and revelling in the joys of independence, tragedy struck our family with a force that left us reeling. My father, the pillar of my strength and the sole breadwinner of our household, was suddenly snatched away from us, leaving a void that seemed impossible to fill.

The news of him passing hit me like a ton of bricks, knocking the wind out of my sails and leaving me dealing with a rapid of emotions. Shock, disbelief, grief – they all came crashing down on me, threatening to engulf me in their suffocating embrace. How could this happen? How could someone so full of life and energy be taken away from us in the blink of an eye?

Among the haze of sorrow and despair, I started going through all of his belongings. His photos, bringing back our happy days, our movie tickets, that he used to keep safe as a collection, being a movie lover, and his cloths that still smelled like him. In between all this, the harsh reality of our situation began to dawn on me, when our home loan papers came in my hand.

With my father gone, our family was left vulnerable and exposed, shaking on the brink of financial ruin. As the sole breadwinner, he had shouldered the responsibility of providing for us, ensuring that we never wanted for anything. But now, with his sudden departure, we found ourselves drifting in a sea of uncertainty, struggling to stay strong in middle of the storm.

It was in those dark moments of misery that the significance of my father’s foresight truly began to emerge on me. You see, unknown to me, my father had made provisions for such unforeseen circumstances. He always used to quote a phrase from Maharishi Mahesh Yogi’s 1960 speech, , “Don’t fight darkness – bring the light, and darkness will disappear.”
